SION
Sion is the capital of the Canton of Valais and one of the sunniest places in Switzerland. This small, centrally located town is rich with culture, beautifully blending old and new with modern municipal facilities and quaint medieval buildings. The first things to greet you as you arrive at this picturesque location between two cliffs are the towering Castle Tourbillon and Castle of Valeria.
Surrounded by the Alps, Sion is perfect for hiking and becomes a ski hub during the winter months since it is so close to Anzère, Crans-Montana, 4 Vallées and Val d’Hérens. There are thermal spa resorts, museums, art galleries, churches and shops to enjoy when you are not taking on the slopes and music festivals are held all year round.
Experience the café culture and explore the beautiful Valais vineyards that surround the city; Sion is in the middle of one of Switzerland’s most important wine-growing regions. With its 7,000-year history, Sion is one of Switzerland’s oldest cities and the Old Town is full of fascinating monuments. Lake Thun is not far away and is well worth a visit, being one of the most popular holiday regions in the country.
